NJEA CONVENTIONNovember 8 & 9, 2007Attention all PEA Members, the 2007 NJEA convention is coming! Plan ahead by perusing October’s NJEA Reporter for details about professional development, and other career enhancement opportunities this coming November. Are you looking for new ideas? Want a chance to network with NJEA members from all over the state? Might you be searching for new classroom materials, information, or strategies by which to embellish your classroom? Well then…the NJEA convention is the place for you! This Year’s Convention is scheduled for November 8 and 9 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. The convention theme: NJEA and Public Schools Paving the Way, celebrates NJEA’s commitment to great public schools for every child. Members should have already received their official NJEA Reporter Convention Programs issue. Remember to check room capacity information very carefully. Members are admitted into workshops on a first-come, first-served basis. Fire codes prohibit the rooms from exceeding the posted capacity. IMPORTANT – – A MESSAGE FROM PEA PRESIDENT ANNE MARIE DEWITI am asking each one of you to take a few minutes to look over the "Talking Points" paper from NJEA about the proposals from the Special Legislative Session. Many of these proposals are troubling. It is believed that the timing of this is no mistake. They are hoping that we are too busy with the holiday to notice or even care about what they are proposing. Please take some time to make a few calls or cyberlobby on NJEA's web site. Let your elected representatives know that you oppose these recommendations. It literally takes minutes to cyberlobby, all you do is filling your information and click send. All the information is placed in an email for you. Also, telephone numbers are available for you to call important New Jersey representatives along with a script for you to read! Take a few minutes to call your legislators. Read the Committee ReportsMany of the recommendations have been or soon will be put into legislation and debated through the normal legislative committee process. NJEA will testify extensively. We expect the pensions and benefits proposals to be considered immediately. With the exception of the school funding formula, we expect most of the bills to be considered by the end of December.
